Why Are Crimson

About Olivia Wunk

Olivia attended Harvard University from 2012-2016, where she studied English with a secondary in Mind/Brain/Behavior, a combination that allowed her to pursue her love of both the sciences and the humanities.

After graduation, she pursued her Master’s degree in English (1900-present) at the University of Oxford, where she focused her dissertation on the relationship between T.S. Eliot’s plays and contemporary dramatic writing. While at Oxford, she taught English Literature and Public Speaking/Debate to students at Oxford Royale Academy, a summer school based in Oxford’s beautiful colleges. She is also interested in working with students on U.S. university applications (college choice, application preparation, SAT/ACT preparation), and discussing with them the difference between the U.S. and U.K. university systems.

Martin Walsh was named Assistant Dean of Admission at Stanford University, where he was charged with evaluating submissions from New England’s famous boarding schools and, of course, applications from international students in South America, India and Europe.

"Over the years I am not certain how many applications I reviewed, perhaps 5,000, perhaps more? Trust me: the reading cycle is exhausting and a bit of a blur. Happily, many of my questions about the mysteries of the admission process were answered."

Former Stanford Admissions Officer

George graduated from Harvard College with a degree in Sociology and secondary field in African American Studies, his journey to the East Coast was prologued by a quick hop over the Atlantic, all the way from Brentwood, England. Applying only regular decision to a host of top colleges, he received a likely letter of acceptance from Harvard, and needed no selling on where to enrol! He performed in and music directed various musicals, played clarinet and saxophone in college orchestras, and sang for the Harvard University Choir and the annually-touring Harvard Krokodiloes, but he also managed to squeeze in positions with a Boston after-school tutoring program, a drug and alcohol peer advising committee, and an annual fashion show.

Anika has always had a passion for linguistics and is thrilled to tap into all the resources UPenn has to offer on the subject. She even wrote her common app essay about it. She refers to linguistics as, “the music that binds me to my past but also how it can push me to the future. How I can move away from my heritage but still remain linked to my past and my mom at the same time. ”

UPenn houses the oldest modern linguistics department in the US, and offers an abundance of resources for Anika.
